About
Herman van Niekerk is a highly decorated retired South African Special Forces Colonel. He left the military in 1999 after 27 years of service and formed his own company which took him on a task for the United Nations in de-mining the war-zone between Eritrea and Ethiopia.
There after he went into the protection of ships at sea against pirates and presently he is the corporate head of security of a large oil company in the Nigerian Delta continuing to embrace an abrasive life-style.

His family lives in the tranquil town called Knysna, 500 km East of Cape Town in South Africa. He is married and has 4 children of which the eldest is 37 and the youngest 11.

Born to Storm is a 370 page book with 60 pictures telling the story of his journey growing up, becoming a soldier, getting into extreme controversial situations and commanding high profile Special Forces operations. A story of ambition filled with success and failures, love and hate, loyalty and deceit, living and dying, creating and destroying.
